Alexander Welsh has been a Rockford police officer since July 2017.
Before that he worked as an Indiana State Trooper.
He is the son of retired Rockford police officer Marc Welsh.
On May 4th, 2021, Welsh and Rockford police officer Brandon Esparza were sent to monitor disruption to the alderman swearing in during a city council meeting.
Protestors were outside City Hall playing music with signs of Faustin Guetigo and Jose Gonzalez Jr. both who had been shot by police less than a month prior.
Rockford Township member Nancy Johnson went to the police stating she was alarmed and disturbed and willing to press charges.
This was the second time warrants had been filed against protestors. The two were arrested in the area of the occupation around midnight the next day.
On December 24th, 2023, Welsh responded to an apartment on Charles Street. Inside the apartment Rockford police officer Michael Rhein had just shot and killed Patrick Kirby.
Welsh immediately walked Rhein outside of the apartment building and checked him for injuries.
