Cassie Hames (Amador) has been a Rockford police office since 2018.
She is married to Rockford police officer Andrew Hames.
On August 21st, 2020, City Market, Amador was assigned to work City Market “crowd detail”
The protests began in the area of City Market in an attempt to raise awareness to the local police violence that took place on May 30th, 2020 - the first protest in Rockford following the murder of George Floyd. In the weeks prior, tensions had been heightened between protesters and police/state officials. From July 31st, 2020, there were arrests made every week.
On the night of August 21st, Amador and Bryce Davis arrested a protestor for allegedly blocking the roadway.
Amador grabbed onto the protestor bike to prevent from leaving while Davis grabbed and took the protestor to the ground.
Amador responded to the Occupation at City Hall on multiple occasions to give protestors ordinance violations and bans from City Hall.
On October 30th, 2020, Amador responded to a scene outside the old courthouse in the interest section of W State and Court Street. At that time a protest had been happening daily in the mornings of that intersection. These protests were meant to highlight local police terrorism including police violence especially the RPD shooting of Tyris Jones.
Officers came to give noise ordinance violations to one of protesters that was walking around with two megaphones. They surrounded the protesters, gave the citation and took the megaphones.
This led to another protester going to retrieve another megaphone that the police took before they had a complainant for a second noise complaint. As they surrounded the second protester the remaining crowd approached the police.
Cops repeatedly pushed and pulled a brother of Tyris Jones ultimately ending up with his arrest.
Shortly after, a third protester attempted to pass the crowd of cops to continue the protest and walk on the crosswalk. They were stopped from leaving and eventually arrested as well.
On June 5th, 2023, Hames and Aaron Ruffolo were assigned to work as extra security to Rockford’s City Council meeting. After the meeting ended Hames outside to her squad vehicle when she seen a protester that had been arrested the previous week for disrupting the Mayor’s State of the City Address.
She called for Ruffolo to assist her outside. They both watched as the protester confronted the mayor as he walked to his car. RPD police chief Carla Redd exited the building and informed the two cops that the protester had a ban from City Hall that had yet to be served
En route was Sergeant Eric McClain with the ban paperwork. The officers waited for him to arrive but it was another community member who arrived first. They recorded the incident without saying anything until McClain arrived. The protester walked off without taking his paperwork while the community member who had never been banned before stayed on the property.
The officers lied and said they already had banned paperwork for the community member. It ended with an arrest for criminal trespass.
