Richard Beaufils has been a Rockford police officer since 2001.

In 2014, Beaufils was working with then rookie police officer Nicole Macias (Shelly). Beaufils was a field training officer at the time.

Shelly was driving the squad car.

They began to pursue a speeding car, but Shelly was slow to activate her lights and sirens.

She activated the lights as she was running through a red light, chasing the vehicle.

The squad car was totaled when it was hit by two different cars.

On October 12th, 2019, Beaufils was asked to gather evidence at the house of a woman accusing fellow RPD officer Daniel Basile of rape.

Beaufils met detectives Vince Kelly and Janie Martin at the woman’s house, the scene of the alleged assault.

Beaufils took pictures of the rooms where it took place and collected a white substance from the couch and another from the women’s clothing from that night.

The substance was later confirmed to match Basile.

Basile was charged with one count criminal sexual assault but the case would be dismissed after Vince Kelly, then union president, lied during his grand jury testimony.
