The Killing of Jesse Hare

On July 2nd, 2008, Yvonne, the mother of Jesse Hare, called 911 after her son allegedly ingested cocaine and was having difficulty breathing.

When five Loves Park police officers arrived on to the trailer park home in Forest Hills Village on Granite street, Jesse ran from them.

The five officers chased after Jesse as he ran into traffic. They eventually succeeded in taking him to the ground.

The cops allege that Jesse continued to struggle which led to them pepper spraying Jesse in the face.

Shortly after having him cuffs, they realized Jesse was no longer breathing. He died an hour later at Rockford Memorial Hospital.

This was the second in custody death in two weeks and second overall in 2008.

In both incidents, cops blamed the victims use of cocaine for their death and justified their use of force.

This was the 16th deadly force incident by police in Winnebago in the 2000’s.

It was the third fatal non shooting deadly force incident in two years by police in Winnebago County.
