On October 11th, 2012, 18 year-old Logan Bell was experiencing a mental health crisis.
It’s been previously reported Logan had been diagnosed but in the days leading up to the 11th had stopped taking the medication he was prescribed.
A family member of Logan made a 911 call in which they stated their fear that Logan could potentially harm himself. They told dispatcher he had a BB gun on him at the time.
Three Rockford police officers: Jeremiah Cizerle, Phillip Statler and Andre Brass responded to the scene.
The three officers chased Logan from the Bell household into a field nearby.
The cops alleged that Logan pointed the BB gun and possibly fired once causing Brass to trip and fall.
It is not alleged that Logan Bell hit any one of the officers.
With Brass on the ground, but not injured in any way, Statler and Cizerle shot Logan Bell sixteen times.
This was the fourth case investigated and justified by the Winnebago County Integrity Task Force and the fifth deadly force indictment by police in Winnebago County in the 2010’s.
It was the second Rockford police shooting in 2012.
This was the first “suicide by cop” justification by the Winnebago County Integrity Task Force.
